Tinubu Reveals The Minimum Wage He Will Approve

President Bola Tinubu has opened up on the new minimum wage he will approve for Nigerian workers.

Speaking on the issue, Tinubu announced that he would approve a new minimum wage that aligns with the government’s financial capabilities. He made this statement during a dinner in Abuja, as the country celebrates Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to his supporters, vowing to adhere to democratic principles. Addressing Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, he mentioned that they would soon receive an Executive Bill regarding the new minimum wage.

“The minimum wage will be what Nigerians, you, and I can afford. Cut your coat according to your size,” he said.

The President also committed to reducing food prices by addressing banditry, which has displaced many farmers. He urged Nigerians to back his administration’s economic strengthening efforts and informed them that a bill for the new minimum wage would soon be sent to the National Assembly.

Last Friday, the government and labor unions failed to reach an agreement on the new minimum wage. The unions reduced their demand from N494,000 to N250,000, while the government increased its offer from N60,000 to N62,000. Both parties submitted their reports to the President, who is expected to decide and send an executive bill to the National Assembly for the new minimum wage.
