The rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty on all charges in the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion

In July 2020, a Los Angeles jury found Tory Lanez guilty of all three charges related to the shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the Hollywood Hills.
Prosecutors said Lanez had pleaded not guilty to assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
All three counts were found guilty by the jury.
During an argument, Megan claimed Lanez shot her in the foot after she exited a vehicle they were in.
According to Megan’s testimony during the trial, she and Lanez had an argument in the car when she was with her former assistant and friend, Kelsey Harris, Billboard Magazine reports. According to the artist, Lanez told Megan he wanted her to confess to Harris that the two of them had been intimate. However, Megan was reluctant to do so because she knew Harris was in love with the Canadian musician.
Megan said she had exited the car when Lanez shot her.
“I started walking away and I hear Tory yell, ‘Dance, b***h,” she tearfully testified, according to Billboard. “I froze. I just felt shock. I felt hurt. I looked down at my feet and I see all of this blood.”
In a statement to CNN following the verdict, LA County DA George Gascón said Megan “showed incredible courage and vulnerability” during her testimony.
Megan, “you faced unjust and despicable scrutiny that no woman should have to face, and you have been an inspiration to others across LA County and the nation,” he said.
Because they aren’t believed too often, women, especially Black women, are afraid to report crimes such as assault and sexual violence. “This trial, for the second time this month, highlighted the numerous ways that our society must improve for women,” Gascón continued, referring to Harvey Weinstein’s conviction on Monday on three out of seven charges.
In addition, he thanked the jurors for their time and thoughtful consideration.
During the nine-day trial, Lanez did not take the stand in his defense.
On Friday afternoon, a jury of five men and seven women reached a verdict.
CNN affiliate KCBS reports that Lanez was handcuffed after the verdict was read in court.
He may be deported back to his native country after serving a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison.
