Tension In Rivers As APC Directs 27 Pro-Wike Lawmakers To Impeach Gov Fubara

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the 27 members of the State House of Assembly aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Similanayi Fubara.

Chief Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC in the state, conveyed this demand during a press conference held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Okocha cited numerous impeachable offenses committed by the governor as the basis for commencing the impeachment process.

He specifically criticized Governor Fubara’s recent statement made while receiving a delegation of Ijaw leaders from Bayelsa state on Monday, where he purportedly dismissed the existence of the state House of Assembly.

“We have directed members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to commence the impeachment process of a comatose government. The Governor’s head has become bigger than his pillow. He does not respect the law. He does anything he cares to do,” Okocha asserted.

Okocha emphasized the importance of upholding the constitution, stating, “You know the history of politics. You know the constitution of Nigeria. The Governor said the Assembly members do not exist, that whatever thing they are doing is because he allowed them.”

He criticized what he perceived as the governor’s dictatorial tendencies and vowed opposition against such actions, particularly highlighting Governor Fubara’s alleged disrespect towards the President.

The APC Chairman also questioned the governor’s authority to declare the Assembly non-existent, emphasizing that the Assembly members were duly elected representatives of the people.

“In consultation with my party, we have directed and we are directing the Assembly members and as APC members who are in the Assembly to immediately commence the impeachment of Governor Sim Fubara,” Okocha concluded.
