Supreme Court Delivers Landmark Judgment On Nnamdi Kanu's Fate Today

The Supreme Court is poised to deliver a crucial judgment today that will determine the fate of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been in detention since June 2021 following his rearrest in Kenya and extradition to Nigeria.

Upon his return, the Nigerian Government charged him before the Federal High Court in Abuja with four counts, including treasonable felony, conspiracy to commit treasonable felony, illegal importation of radio equipment, and defamation of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Expressing his expectations for the impending judgment, socio-political activist Deji Adeyanju urged the Supreme Court to grant Kanu bail. He emphasized the need for a judgment that instills confidence in the judiciary and called on politicians to gracefully accept defeat in elections.

Adeyanju stated, “Kanu should be admitted to bail; bail is not an escape from justice. It’s an opportunity for the defendant to amply defend himself. In my view, this idea of turning people into political prisoners is unacceptable.”
