Shut Up! – Gov Alia Shuns Ex-Gov Ortom, Fires Warning At SGF, Akume

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, speaking on Friday, issued a stern warning to his predecessors, including Chief Samuel Ortom, urging them to refrain from interfering in his administration.

He emphasized that he would not tolerate any attempts to destabilize his government. In response to Ortom’s remarks during his 63rd birthday anniversary public lecture in Makurdi, where he advised Governor Alia to avoid conflict with Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Alia asserted his determination to maintain the stability of his administration.

Addressing journalists upon his return from the USA on Friday morning, Governor Alia emphasized, “I can’t allow anyone, whether a former governor or Civil Servant. If you are a former governor and you have nothing to contribute to Benue, shut up. You had your term; you went through it, allow the administration to work.”

He stressed the importance of constructive criticism but urged individuals to verify their facts before making statements. Alia insisted that those who have served their tenure should not seek to destabilize the current government.

Alia disclosed that he and nine other Northern Governors were invited by the USA Peace Institute to discuss strategies for addressing insecurity in the region. He highlighted efforts to repatriate displaced persons and improve security, particularly in farming communities.

During his eight-day trip to the USA, Alia worked to improve Benue State’s image and attract investment. He expressed optimism that Benue would become a model for other states to emulate.

Encouraging vigilance among citizens, Alia emphasized the importance of each person’s role in ensuring security and preventing land encroachment. He urged against succumbing to bribery or intimidation and emphasized the need to protect the interests of the people and the land.
