Panic As Hoodlums Invade, Set Ex-Gov’s House On Fire

Hoodlums stormed the residence of former Benue State Governor Late Aper Aku and set it on fire.

The house is located in the Gboko area of the state. Late Aku, the pioneer civilian Governor of the North Central state, had his home engulfed in flames in the unfortunate incident that occurred on Monday. Fortunately, occupants were evacuated by the Police before the inferno consumed the building.

Deborah Aku, daughter of the late Governor, recounted the harrowing experience to reporters in Markurdi on Tuesday. She disclosed that six individuals were rescued by the Police prior to the arson attack.

Trouble first started in March when an individual brandishing a cutlass threatened violence, alleging that his goat died after drinking water from their premises. Aku’s mother reported the incident to the Gboko Police Division, leading to legal proceedings.

Describing the latest attack, Aku stated, “The incident started between 7 am and 8 am on Monday. They came around and didn’t talk to anyone numbering over 30. When we noticed that their visit was not friendly we locked all the doors and called the Police.”

She continued, “Before the Police could arrive they started destroying the house, killed our dog, broke into the pig house and carted away with all the pigs. They also destroyed our mother’s car.”

Despite the timely intervention of law enforcement agents, the assailants wreaked havoc, incinerating the property along with its contents. Aku expressed gratitude to the Police for their rescue efforts and urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
