Nigerian human rights activist assasinated

A Nigerian human rights activist and anti-death penalty advocate Arthur Judah Angel, has been reportedly assassinated.

According to SaharaReporters, Arthur was killed in his country home in Edo state.

He was the President and founder of Life Wire International Foundation, who wrote: “I refused to die, a true life story of Divine Intervention on death row”.

Mr. Angel, who spent nine years on death row for a crime he did not commit in 1986, was tragically killed and buried in a shallow grave on Sunday.

His assailants also burned down his house after the assassination.

After being pardoned and released from prison, Angel dedicated himself to advocating against the death penalty in Nigeria.

He used his art exhibitions and drawings to speak out against capital punishment, travelling to over 15 countries for this cause.

The incident occurred in Ugboha, Esan South East, Edo State.

Arthur’s cousin, Michael Ihaza, confirmed the assassination.

He mentioned ongoing legal disputes over family land, where Angel played a key role.
