JUST IN: Rivers New Speaker Speaks After His Emergence, Sends Message To Gov Fubara

Rivers State new Speaker, Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, has spoken after his election to preside over the state assembly.

Jumbo emphasized the legality and constitutionality of his ascension to office. “I believe my election into office is legal and constitutional,” Jumbo affirmed.

Jumbo, who represents Bonny Constituency, was elected during the plenary session on Wednesday at 10 am, adhering to the House’s Standing Order.

“My gratitude to the members for entrusting me with the role of Speaker after the resignation of former Speaker, Edison Ehie,” he expressed in his acceptance speech.

He highlighted the tumultuous legislative landscape since the last session on December 13, 2023, and underscored the defection of 25 former lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Party (APC) on December 11, 2023.

Jumbo stressed, “The actions of the former lawmakers, including laws enacted, are null and void according to legal precedent.”

Asserting the legitimacy of the current Assembly, he urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to cease interactions with the former lawmakers loyal to Wike.

“This Assembly stands as the legally and constitutionally recognized House,” Jumbo reiterated, urging collaboration with Governor Fubara for the progress of Rivers State.
