In an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ajaero emphasized the NLC’s commitment to workers’ rights despite the President’s nonchalant attitude. He highlighted the necessity of a new minimum wage to ease the financial hardships faced by Nigerian workers.

Ajaero criticized Tinubu’s casual approach, stating it shows a lack of understanding of workers’ struggles. He noted that ongoing discussions with the President are crucial for resolving the issue, as Tinubu holds a key role in this matter. Ajaero expressed hope that once these talks conclude, there will be no further obstacles to implementing a new minimum wage.

He stressed that the NLC has been in constant communication with the government to ensure the new wage structure is fair and suitable for the current economic situation. Ajaero mentioned that many workers are struggling due to the rising cost of living, and increasing the minimum wage is essential for their survival.

Ajaero assured workers that the NLC is dedicated to their cause and will persist until their demands are met. He urged all workers to remain united and steadfast in their pursuit of justice.

Ajaero said, “The last minimum wage expired on April 18th, and the government has owed wages for April, May, and June. We don’t have the luxury of time, and we have told Mr. President. Although he said if we go on strike, he will have time to read his papers and do other things.”
