Former Cameroon international, Landry Nguemo dies in fatal road accident

38-year-old former Indomitable lions defensive midfielder, Joel Landry Tsafack Nguemo has passed away, following a tragic road accident on the Yaounde-Bafoussam highway.

The prolific midfielder alongside his driver passed away, after a fatal road accident that saw their vehicle colliding with a heavy sand truck, at Obala this afternoon.

Reports from the scene of the incident have it that the native of Dschang in the West Region of Cameroon died on the spot even before any intervention.

A great footballer in his hail days, Nguemo came through the famous EFBC production before going on to play for AS Nancy, Bordeaux and Saint-Étienne in France and for Scottish club Celtic Glasgow.

His international career lasted close to a decade from 2006. He featured at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups plus multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, accumulating 41 caps for Cameroon via which he scored three goals.

After a successful football career in 2020, he enrolled into a coaching school abroad, which saw him holding the post of youth football club trainer at various clubs.

While in Cameroon he became more popular for his interventions on the national television flagship program, “Fou Fou Foot”, alongside team mate Alexandre Song.

Few days before his demise, he joined his former mates: Martin Hongla, Jean Il Makoun and others at the Camp Sic Nlongkak most celebrated football tournament.

His impromptu departure leaves the local and international football family aggrieved.
