FG Unveils Details Of New N-Power, Increases Age Limit, Number Of Beneficiaries

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has outlined the Federal Government’s ambitious plan to create five million jobs for youths within the next five years through the N-Power scheme. Edu, who recently announced the suspension of the program, shared these details in an interview with Channels TV.

According to Edu, the objective is to generate one million jobs annually as a means of revitalizing the suspended N-Power initiative. She emphasized that the government is in the process of reviewing the program to rebuild trust in it.

Edu clarified that the suspension was prompted by observed irregularities within the scheme, and an investigation has been initiated to examine how funds were utilized since its inception. She highlighted the need to audit the program to identify the actual number of participants, those who have exited, and individuals owed stipends, addressing discrepancies such as beneficiaries who had left but were still receiving payments.

Furthermore, Edu revealed plans to expand and restructure the N-Power program to encompass five million beneficiaries aged 18 to 40, broadening the age limit from the previous cap of 35. The restructured initiative aims to enroll one million beneficiaries annually over a five-year period, fostering transparency, accountability, and public confidence.

Edu emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring the success of this revamped program, promising a departure from past practices to establish a more equitable and effective system.
