BREAKING: Governors Hold Crucial Meeting To Decide Minimum Wage, Other Issues

Governors from some states in the country have gathered for a crucial meeting in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State have arrived at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Head Office in Abuja for the crucial meeting. Led by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, the NGF will deliberate on several key issues, including the new minimum wage and local government autonomy.

The Governors had previously opposed the Federal Government’s proposed N62,000 minimum wage, citing financial constraints that would force some states to borrow to meet salary obligations. Despite this, labor organizations continue to push for a higher minimum wage of N250,000.

This emergency meeting follows the Federal Executive Council’s decision to postpone discussions on the minimum wage to allow President Bola Tinubu to engage in broader consultations. Additionally, the Federal Government’s case against the 36 state Governors, which seeks to enforce full autonomy for local governments, remains pending at the Supreme Court.
