BREAKING: Fubara Issues Fresh Order After Swearing In Caretaker Chairmen For LGAs

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has issued a fresh order in Rivers State amid the crisis over local government administration.

The Governor ordered an audit of local government finances in the state, following the swearing-in of new caretaker chairmen for the 23 local government areas.

Fubara issued this directive shortly after the House of Assembly, under factional Speaker Victor Jumbo, screened and approved the nominees on Tuesday.

In his address during the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Fubara urged the newly appointed caretaker chairmen to view themselves as guardians rather than superheroes, tasked with safeguarding the interests of their constituents and proving their worthiness of the government’s choice.

He underscored that these developments are intrinsic to democratic principles, emphasizing that the resistance against tenure extension is not exclusive to Rivers State but has national implications. Allowing it in one state, he cautioned, could set a precedent nationwide.

Governor Fubara clarified that the appointment of caretaker committees is a common practice across many states in the country and assured that their tenure would not be prolonged excessively, as plans for local government elections would commence soon.

He stressed a non-violent approach to governance and urged the officials to promptly resolve the financial obligations of their predecessors, particularly concerning salaries and entitlements.
