Taylor Swift breaks down ‘Speak Now’ for ET in her original interview from 2010. The songstress explains why she wrote all 14 songs on her third studio album, which features GRAMMY-winning ‘Mean,’ ‘Dear John,’ ‘Better Than Revenge’ and ‘Sparks Fly.’ The then-20-year-old says the record followed two ‘really intense’ years and was inspired by a few ‘repeat offenders’ from her personal life. Swift also reacts to her ‘Innocent’ performance at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, explaining that the track represents the entire record’s theme of ‘just saying exactly how you feel when the moment is right.’ In addition to music videos for ‘The Story of Us’ and ‘Back to December,’ her concert special, ‘Speak Now World Tour Live,’ paints a vivid picture of Taylor’s life and career 13 years ago. In May 2023, the ‘All Too Well’ director announced ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ was her next re-recorded album during an Eras Tour performance in Nashville, following some purple-themed hints that Swifties had already picked up on.
