BREAKING: Tension In Rivers As Pro-Wike Lawmakers Hold Sitting To Counter Pro-Fubara’s Camp

Tension mounts in Rivers State as the two factions of the State House of Assembly are set to convene separate sessions today.

Last night, the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led faction, aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, invited Emmanuel Frank-Fubara, a new commissioner-nominee, to appear for screening and confirmation before their assembly on Monday. This was communicated in a letter by the Clerk, Dr G. M Gillis-West.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Martin Amaewhule-led faction, which supports Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, will also hold a plenary session today, according to reliable sources.

The pro-Fubara lawmakers will convene in an improvised chamber within the Government House, Port Harcourt, while the Wike-backed legislators will meet at the official State Assembly quarters on Aba Road in the same city.

Both factions are scheduled to commence their sessions at 10 am today (Monday).

The agenda for the Amaewhule-led lawmakers is not yet clear, but this session marks their first meeting since the Court of Appeal recognized them as legitimate members of the House. Likely topics of discussion may include the ongoing blockade of the state’s 23 local government councils by the police, a situation stemming from the recent controversies surrounding the tenure of the former Local Government Chairmen and review of other issues decided earlier by the lawmakers loyal to Fubara.
