Kidnappers Who Attempted To Grab Top Politician Gunned Down, Dangerous Weapons Recovered

Some kidnappers who attempted to forcefully take away a top politician have been gunned down in one of their hideouts.

The Anambra State Police Command successfully neutralized three members of the armed criminal gang that attacked the convoy of prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure Chris Uba.

The incident occurred on December 28, 2023, in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, resulting in the tragic loss of two police officers from the Enugu State Command.

Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, confirmed the success of the operation in an interview with reporters. He highlighted the rescue of a 51-year-old kidnap victim and assured the public that an extensive manhunt was underway to apprehend the remaining gang members.

Adeoye emphasized the careful approach taken by the police to avoid unintended casualties during the holiday season, stating, “The police struck immediately the gang was isolated from the innocent public somewhere around Ogboji, in Orumba South Local Government.”

He provided details of the operation, stating, “Three members of the gang were killed, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered and defused. In addition, two pump action guns and 16 live cartridges were recovered as well as one Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).”

The commissioner reiterated the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring that criminals find no refuge, pledging ongoing efforts to maintain public safety.
