Paul Okoye Narrowly Escapes Fraud Orchestrated by ‘Emir of Kano’ Instagram

Paul Okoye has taken to his Instagram to share a conversation between him and a fraudulent Instagram page run by an unknown person claiming to be the Emir of Kano.

From the screenshot, the singer had initially believed the page to be authentic and even released his contact details when the ‘Emir’ requested for it, but things went south when an unknown person called him and requested for money.

The Instagram page was verified, which could be why Paul Okoye initially fell for it.

“[He] asked me to help send N5m to someone from my account as he was having issues with his online banking. His voice first gave him away when he spoke,” said Paul Okoye, adding, “Abeg how former CBN Oga at the top go ask ordinary me for money?”

BBC reports that a 20-year-old year man was arrested for running the fake page. The suspect will be charged for impersonation and fraud.

Following the arrest, the official verification badge was removed and the page has now been made private.
